Environmental Sustainability: Community Waste Reduction

Reducing the amount of material that is landfilled by recycling and composting has a positive impact on the environment. This lesson will walk attendees through the operation of recycling and composting facilities, future trends, food composting, improving operational efficiencies. We will look at the ways in which materials are processed to ensure that marketable end products are produced. 

After completing this workshop participants will be able to:

• implement strategies for increasing public participation in recycling and composting;
• understand the types and operation of recycling and composting facilities; and
• articulate the environmental benefits of different waste reduction strategies.
